Counseling

Individual counseling is a form of therapy in which a client engages 1:1 with a licensed professional to discuss their personal and emotional issues. Anyone can benefit from individual counseling, as it helps you understand how to make positive changes and create a workable plan. Individual counseling focuses solely on the client, and sessions take place in a confidential setting to protect the client's privacy. Some reasons you may choose to seek out individual counseling are:

  • Dealing with extreme emotions
  • Experiencing a recent traumatic event
  • Grieving the death of a loved one, divorce, or job loss
  • Problems in the workplace
  • A loss of enjoyment in activities
  • Inability to cope with life's stress

During therapy sessions, you will work with your therapist to create an individualized treatment plan with measurable goals and milestones. There are many treatment modalities within therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT),  Solution Focus Brief Therapy (SFBT), and more. Your therapist may use one or a combination of these modalities while addressing your specific needs.

Occasionally, you may be assigned "homework" to reinforce concepts learned in therapy and help you progress toward your mental health goals. In addition, your therapist might also suggest additional types of support during treatment, including medication management or support groups.
